Going and Growing

February 21-28, our Volunteer Construction team members traveled to Bay St. Louis, MS to do construction on homes that were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. We worked with the Lakeshore Baptist Church and Rev. Don Elbourne. Seventeen volunteers made the trip. We were housed in Quanset huts, which is a glorified tent with a floor in it.
Out team worked on two different projects. On Monday morning we were taken to a lot that had a small camping trailer and a storage building on it. Our first job was to move the storage building so we could put a house where the storage building had been. The only problem with that was a mother Pit-Bull dog that had 8 puppies in that building. But the Lord worked that out. She went in the building to protect her pups, and we nailed the door shut until the building was moved.

We were then told we had to dig 16 holes 42 inches deep and 28 inches across. These holes would have 8"x8" posts set in them to be the pilings for the house to set on. This was done by noon Tuesday, but had to be inspected before concrete could be poured in the holes.

We finished this on Friday afternoon. Tuesday afternoon through Friday morning, we built a bedroom and bath onto a house, and constructed a storage building at the same home. These jobs were in the dry and our mess cleaned up by noon on Friday.

We gave each of the owners a Bible and had prayer with them. None of them had a Christian testimony, but we are praying for them. The lady at the house where the dogs were does not have the money to build her house. I have heard a report from some of the team members that their churches have given some money to help this lady get in her home. Praise the Lord, and thank the people.

Prayer at end of mission.
